In it, the world’s most famous duck grapples with a host of concepts. Unabashedly educational, the film aims to spark young people’s interest in mathematics and challenge overly elitist approaches to the subject. Donald, as funny as ever and with his trademark temper, first encounters trees with square roots and streams of numbers, before meeting a spirit who guides him. The film explores a wide range of topics: music and Pythagoras, the golden ratio, architecture, nature, intellectual games such as chess, billiard-ball trajectories…
This animated classic was immediately adapted into a 30-page comic by Don Christensen, Tony Strobl and Steve Steere in 1959 (One Shots 1051), but copies were very hard to come by. First published in France in 2003 (Picsou Magazine 381), it did not become available again until issue 557 of Picsou Magazine, dated September–October 2021. Entitled Les Bons Comptes font les bons amis, the issue gives mathematics pride of place and even includes an interview with Mickaël Launay!
