The 2020 Littéramath list

Many young French people—and plenty of not-so-young ones—have a fraught relationship with mathematics. This is no secret. One way to address this, and to keep children from feeling that they are entering unfamiliar territory when they first begin learning mathematics, is to familiarize them early on with the cultural world of mathematics.

There are several playful or artistic approaches. One of them is storytelling. Tales, novels, comic books, biographies, stories… the possibilities abound!

To help adults who work with children, whether professionally or otherwise, choose suitable books, the Littéramath project team—in partnership with Club Tangente, the IREM network and APMEP—has drawn up reading lists for four levels: cycle 3, cycle 4, high school and science-track high school. A cycle 2 list is being prepared. These lists are intended to be updated every year with new releases. The 2020 edition, published in issue 53 of Tangente Éducation, is available online at **tangente-education.com**
