Led by the CNRS and awarded €50 million over ten years under the "France 2030" plan, the program harnesses mathematics to address major issues through interdisciplinary projects.
Mathematicians will work with specialists in the life sciences, environmental science and the social sciences to create new tools for modeling and predicting complex phenomena such as climate, epidemics, the response of agronomic systems to disruptions caused by global change, and complex underground processes, thereby supporting the energy transition. The program will foster innovative fundamental research and bring its findings to the general public. Maths-Vives (**www.maths-vives.fr**) thus hopes to show that mathematics, far from being limited to numbers, is key to tackling the major challenges of our time.
