The Henri Poincaré Prize, sponsored by the Daniel-Lagolnitzer Foundation in partnership with the International Association of Mathematical Physics, now ranks among the major scientific prizes.

Established in 1997, it is awarded every three years to three or four eminent scientists in recognition of their outstanding contributions to mathematical physics. The award is worth €10,000 per recipient and includes a statuette by a contemporary sculptor; it is presented at the International Congress of Physics. Several young French scientists have received the prize: David Ruelle in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2006; Cédric Villani in Prague, Czech Republic, in 2009; and Sylvia Serfaty and Nalini Anantharaman in Aalborg, Denmark, in 2012.

The same foundation also funds the Poincaré Seminar on theoretical physics. Established in 2001, it aims to give everyone an opportunity to learn about highly topical subjects in physics. The most recent seminar was held in 2018 and focused on information theory, paying tribute to its originator, Claude Shannon.
