Today, the SMF is an association officially recognized as serving the public interest, a status it has held since 1888. With more than 1,800 members, it aims to promote mathematics and research for all audiences. It publishes prestigious research journals and organizes mathematical events for the general public, including the lecture series "Un texte, un mathématicien" (in partnership with Tangente), "Une question, un chercheur" and "Mathématiques étonnantes", as well as the MathC2+ workshops (see Tangente Éducation 19, 2012).
The anniversary will be celebrated on March 16, 17 and 18, 2022, at the Institut Henri-Poincaré in Paris. The program includes nine mathematical talks and three panel discussions on education, human rights and academic publishing. Each day will conclude with a show or play devoted to mathematics.
