Can a work be created by setting words adapted from sixteen of Raymond Queneau's Exercices de style to the music of sixteen of Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations? Vincent Rouquès, who holds a degree in mathematics and conducts the choir "Les voix mêlées," rose to the challenge, and the result has been performed in a series of wonderful concerts.

The Goldberg Variations are among the legendary works that Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750) wrote for keyboard. They begin with a magnificent aria, whose bass line serves as the theme for the thirty variations that follow, and end with a reprise of the opening aria. That alone makes the work a musicological event.
