Candidates of any nationality must be enrolled in a doctoral program or affiliated with a laboratory or research institute in France or Israel.
The 2019 mathematics winners are Barbarin Dembin (who works on percolation; see Tangente SUP 70–71, 2013) and Radhika Gupta (geometric group theory). Doctoral researchers Jelena Mladenovic (who studies brain–computer interfaces) and Gali Noti (game theory and learning) received the computer science awards. The awards ceremony was held at the Institut Henri-Poincaré on February 12 of this year.
The inaugural scholarships, awarded in 2017, went to mathematician Flaviana Iurlano (calculus of variations and partial differential equations) and computer scientists Talya Eden, Li Liu and Daphna Rothschild.
The association, whose aim is to encourage young women to play an active role in scientific research, was founded in 2017 in memory of Séphora Berrebi (1994–2016), a brilliant student with a passion for mathematics and computer science who battled a brain tumor for three years.
