For the third year running, the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) has awarded its "science outreach medal" to people who know how to share scientific information and knowledge beyond the walls of their laboratories.
This year, one of these medals has been awarded to MATh.en.JEANS, founded by the late Pierre Audin and Pierre Duchet. Its name originally stood for "Method for Learning Mathematical Theories by Pairing Schools for a New Approach to Knowledge." For years, the association has enabled large numbers of young people to take their first steps in mathematical research, discover results and share their work at an annual conference, thus proving that mathematics is a vibrant and exciting science.
