After earning a BEP in microtechnology, Astro worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a technical quality-control inspector, checking that various pieces of laboratory equipment met the required standards. He believes that repeated contact with objects of different shapes and the precision required by the work helped shape his understanding of form and influenced his artistic practice.

He is also entirely self-taught as an artist. Some twenty years ago, he took up graffiti art on disused sites or at graffiti "spots"; there he developed his own graphic language, using random forms like a kind of personal calligraphy. He then moved into large-scale street art on building façades, enabling him to reach a wider audience. This move into architecture led him to work with perspective; he began introducing geometric forms and optical illusions that combined with his random forms.
