The seven tricks presented below—now familiar to anyone who has read the first two installments in this series (see Tangente 200 and 201)—once again hold the keys to the following eight puzzles. Keep them in mind!

The first problem looks like a school exercise. Yet there is no need to use π or algebra. The two circles have the same radius, and the hedge occupies a special position: this is no coincidence. A little imagination will give you the answer almost immediately.
1- The tree where the squirrels Chip and Dale live is eight metres from Pluto the dog's kennel. Lucifer the cat is hiding next door, on the other side of a long, straight hedge that passes four metres from the tree and twelve metres from the kennel. To stay safe, Chip and Dale never venture more than eight metres from the tree, never come within eight metres of the kennel and never cross the hedge.
