Temporarily suspended in late 2019 because of the pandemic, the series resumed in late 2022 and now comprises eight books. Its great strength lies in presenting the texts themselves in scholarly editions. An English translation is always provided, allowing non-specialists to delve into them as well.
For example, the recent volume devoted to Aristarchus of Samos's treatise Sur les dimensions et les distances du Soleil et de la Lune (On the Sizes and Distances of the Sun and Moon) provides a meticulous edition of a previously hard-to-find text, in Greek with an English translation and supplemented by numerous scholia. Readers can likewise discover part of the Sarvasiddhāntarāja, a 17th-century Sanskrit treatise presented in the original Sanskrit and in translation, as well as astronomical treatises from ancient China—again, with the original texts and translations.
This series is therefore a tremendous boon to researchers and enthusiasts of the history of science alike.
