Michel Serfati (1938–2018).
A prolific author of numerous books on the history of mathematics and scientific thought, Michel always chose language that would make his work accessible to everyone. But he will be remembered above all for the "Epistemology and History of Mathematics" seminar, which he founded and ran tirelessly, and which will outlive him. He welcomed distinguished speakers from France and abroad, whose talks focused as much on research as on its applications, enabling those who attend the seminar to theorize their practice. Those who knew Michel Serfati will remember not only his smile and kindness, but also his immense erudition and infectious passion for René Descartes.
