The inaugural edition will launch at the start of the 2025 school year and take place during the academic year.
The idea? Each participating middle school undertakes to form a group of at least ten students, who will read the five selected books. Available in bookstores, these books present mathematics in a stimulating and engaging way. There is just one requirement: rank the five books and submit the results by the end of April. These results will be used to determine the national ranking.
At each middle school, the organizers are free to work with the students to set the ranking criteria (this can lead to debates, discussions about the relevance of certain criteria, and explorations of different voting systems as part of citizenship education…) and decide how to run the prize (a book club, a class project, including it in a fifteen-minute reading session, an interdisciplinary project…)
Schools must register by September 30 and commit to purchasing the selected books. The first ten middle schools to register will each receive one copy of every book free of charge. Information and registration are available at www.apmep.fr/prix-tangente-des-colleges
