The trefoil knot, from Escher to Patrice Jeener --------------------------------------------

After the unknot, the simplest knot is the trefoil knot. This topological object, which has three crossings, has inspired many artists. Maurits Cornelis Escher’s (1898–1972) 1965 woodcut Knot, for example, depicts a trefoil knot. Patrice Jeener, an engraver specializing in mathematical surfaces, born in 1944, also offers his vision of a trefoil knot in one of his engravings, Triple one-sided knot.
