The association recently learned that Grenoble-Alpes Métropole, with which it has been in advanced talks since 2018, will no longer fund the project. The decision is a bitter disappointment for everyone who has worked over the past eight years to move this cultural and educational project forward, as well as for the far greater number who were eagerly awaiting it and regularly checking on its progress.
Despite this new situation, La Grange des Maths will continue its outreach work for people of all ages and backgrounds: educational kits are circulated among middle and primary schools in the Grenoble education district—more than 30,000 pupils have already benefited from them—and received the Jacqueline Ferrand Prize in 2020. Awarded every two years by the Société mathématique de France, the prize recognizes an educational innovation. Furthermore, more than 4,000 people have taken part in the large-scale traveling game "Mission Exoplanètes".
