It was not until 2011 that a Workshop of Potential Music was formally established (www.oumupo.org). Its members—researchers, musicians and composers—include Moreno Andreatta, Martin Granger, Tom Johnson and Valentin Villenave. They all see music as an accessible, playful and expressive way of doing mathematics. The "Oumupians" seek to invent new structures and forms, either by reinventing musical languages or by building bridges to other modes of expression: texts in foreign languages, graphic art, geometry, numbers... Music is often an excellent means of representing abstract concepts and approaching mathematical problems, some of them quite profound. Many mathematical objects can be used to write music: magic squares, Pascal's triangle, the dragon curve, attractors, symmetry, the sieve of Eratosthenes, prime numbers, fractals, stochastic processes... The exploration has only just begun!
