The winner, now in his forties, has long been committed to sharing mathematics. He does so as a teacher, of course, but soon began reaching a wide range of audiences. In 2003, he founded the Entr’aide association, which runs tutoring workshops entitled "Les clés de la réussite". Then, in 2015, he and his colleague Geoffrey Delcroix brought the "Maison des mathématiques" (MdM) project to fruition, inspired by the Mathematikum in Giessen and MoMath in New York (see Tangente 149).
The award recognizes his genuine commitment to presenting mathematics from a different perspective—engaging, playful and experimental—and to stimulating imagination and creativity.
Emmanuel Houdart’s work does not end there: following François Sauvageot’s example, he even takes to the stage with a one-man maths show entitled Very Math Trip. He is also behind two international mathematics conferences to be held in Quaregnon in October and November 2018 as part of the European Informath and Mathspace projects, led by the MdM and selected by the European Union’s Erasmus Commission.
