The 2026 Tangente Prize shortlist

Each year, the Tangente Prize is awarded to a book that inspires a broad readership to explore mathematics and see it in a new light.

The jury has shortlisted seven books for the 2026 prize:

• Leçons de mathématique joyeuse by Cédric Villani, Cherche-Midi, 2025.

• Ma petite histoire des nombres by Étienne Ghys, Odile Jacob, 2025.

• Le grand almanach mathématique by Roger Mansuy, Albin Michel, 2025.

• Je ne sais pas ou la disparition des mathématiciens by Cédric Aubouy, POLE, 2025.

• Le calcul à découvert, edited by Mokrane Bouzeghoub, Michel Dayde and Jutten Christian, CNRS Éditions, 2025.

• Maniac by Benjamin Labatut, Grasset, 2024.

• L’univers de pi by Anita Lehmann, Jean-Baptiste Zubin and Jonas Sildre, Helvetiq, 2024.

The winner will be announced and the prize presented on Saturday, May 23, at the Culture et jeux mathématiques fair, which is held every year on Place Saint-Sulpice in Paris.
