For young people: the André-Parent prize --------------------------------------
André Parent was a teacher at the Athénée royal de Mouscron in Belgium. Together with his wife, Annette, he always championed the idea of teaching mathematics differently (see Tangente 92, pages 2 and 3). He achieved his goal through ever-renewed methods, drawing on playful approaches, cultural insight and, above all, human qualities appreciated by everyone. Following his untimely death in 2003, the Comité International des Jeux Mathématiques (CIJM) wished to honor his memory by awarding a prize bearing his name each year at the Salon de la culture et des jeux mathématiques that it organizes. Its aim is to promote young people's interest in mathematical culture and, more broadly, in science. Since 2004, this prize has rewarded a group of high-school or middle-school students who have designed an outreach activity to popularize mathematics for the general public. The theme must be a scientific subject in which mathematics plays a central role. The originality of the work is an important criterion in the jury's decision. It was awarded in 2015 to the mathematics workshop of the Lycée François-Arago in Perpignan for a project called "les triangles-carrés".
