They are made from 5-cm-thick steel plates and bear evocative titles: Double Torqued Ellipse, Torqued Spiral, Between the Torus and the Sphere, Torqued Ellipse… These metal surfaces form conical, spherical or toroidal sections. As we walk through the sculptures, we realize just how profoundly these mathematical surfaces challenge our sense of verticality. The opposing twists of adjacent surfaces create a feeling of vertigo. The pieces we pass through seem to be moving, poised in unstable equilibrium. The artist thus offers a sensory experience, inviting viewers to feel time, movement, space and the weight of the material.
