This art simply consists of connecting points. A few carefully positioned line segments can create the visual impression of curve envelopes. There seems to be no automatic way to produce these pictures on paper, as a Spirograph-type drawing instrument (Denys Fisher, 1965) can produce rosettes, for example.
Besides a healthy dose of patience, enthusiasts need a wooden board, plenty of cord, nails and a hammer. Scissors and drawing equipment (pencil, graduated ruler, compasses and protractor) will also come in handy.
