All graphics software includes an instruction for drawing a line segment. So, to connect two points, you need only use it… But how is such software built? The question is more interesting than it might seem, since drawing a line segment underpins every other graphics instruction!
A grid of pixels
----------------
Leaving color aside, a computer screen is divided into a number of "points," like a Battleship or crossword grid. In computing jargon, these are called pixels. The term pixel is a contraction of the English words picture ("image") and element. It seems to have first appeared in a 1965 publication by the American engineer Frederic Billingsley.
