In the five games that follow — for which only a few important rules are given here — each player places a piece in turn. A player must play if they can. Once they can no longer play, they leave the game.
Blokus and its variants -----------------------
Created by Bernard Tavitian, Blokus (Sekkoïa / Winning Moves, 2000) is played by two to four players. It comprises four sets of twenty-one pieces, polyominoes. Each player has a set of pieces of a single color and places them one by one on the 20×20-square board so that they touch each other only at one or more corners. However, they may touch other players' pieces (other colors) along their sides. At the end of the game, once no player can place any more pieces, the winner is the one with the fewest small squares in total among their unplaced pieces; that player is not necessarily the last to play. Strategically, players benefit from placing the pentominoes (five-square pieces) first, since the available area becomes increasingly fragmented as the game goes on.
