The monkey strategy in chess

It is said that Sam Loyd, the celebrated American creator of mathematical puzzles, who was also a chess player and composer of chess problems, once heard a novice boast that he knew a foolproof strategy to keep Black from losing at chess. The strategy consisted of systematically mirroring every move made by his opponent. The symmetry here is axial rather than central, as in the examples below: the two queens occupy positions symmetric about the board's central axis, as do the two kings.
