The company is noticeably reluctant to use the term "probability," preferring the circumlocution "overall chance of winning". A vast advertising campaign is under way in the press and on television, aimed at encouraging gambling... And the campaign amounts to a genuine mathematical scam. The ads alternately feature a footballer taking a penalty kick into a goal whose dimensions have been doubled (making it four times the size of a standard goal), or a bowler whose ball, with twice the usual diameter, actually has eight times the volume of a regulation ball...
