Division works like a mirror image of multiplication. Just as multiplication operations depend on the position of the multiplier relative to the multiplicand, division operations depend on the place-value position of the divisor (fa) relative to the dividend (shi). The quotient (shang) is placed at the top. The divisor's initial position relative to the dividend determines the position of the quotient's first digit, reading from left to right.
