In these special quadrilaterals, the sum of the lengths of one pair of opposite sides equals the sum of the lengths of the other pair. Here, AB + CD = AD + CB. The proof uses the fact that the two points where a circle touches intersecting tangent lines are equidistant from their intersection (see In Brief, "A little terminology").
