Formal or abstract structures, such as groups in algebra, have countless wonderful properties that have inspired enthusiasts of constrained literature for decades. Oulipo's members have drawn freely on this rich vein, finding in it a source of inspiration that seems inexhaustible even today.
Permutations take center stage

Take the twelve elements of A4, the alternating group on four objects (see our brief guide "Some examples of groups"). Using the four elements "love," "sees," "everything," and "rosy," and the twelve permutations in the alternating group A4, we can construct the following text:
Love sees everything rosy
Everything love sees rosy,
